Game Format

Tournament has NO Control over “Forfeits"

Games are played 5v5 with no goalkeepers.

Each game will be two 12-minute halves with a 3-minute halftime.

Teams will have 3 minutes between games, so games should stay on schedule.

Rosters:  Each team may have a maximum of 9 players on the roster.

No roster changes may be made after divisions/brackets are finalized.

Shin guards will be worn by all players.

Teams are asked to wear matching shirts or jerseys.

Standings

Teams are ranked by total points.

Win = 3 points

Tie = 1 point

Loss = 0 points

If teams are tied in points, a tie will break the tie in this order:

Goal differential

Total goals scored

Head-to-head (The team that won when the tied teams played each other ranks higher)

Fewest goals allowed (The team that gave up fewer goals ranks higher)

Goal differential is capped at +5 per game. (This means a team can win by more than 5 goals, but only +5 counts in the standings)

Pool Play

Pool play games may end in a tie.

No overtime will be played during pool play.

Each team is guaranteed a minimum of 3 games when division size allows.

Playoffs and Championship

After pool play, teams may advance to semifinals and/or championship games based on standings.

If a playoff or championship game is tied, teams will play one 3-minute golden goal overtime.

If the game is still tied, each team will take 3 penalty shots from midfield into an open goal.

If still tied after 3 shots, teams continue one shot at a time until there is a winner.

Substitutions

Substitutions may be made on the fly at the center line.

Players must enter and exit at the center line.

The player leaving the field must be off before the substitute enters.

Kickoffs

Kickoffs may be played in any direction.

A goal may not be scored directly from kickoff.

The ball must touch another player before a goal can count.

Kick-Ins

Kick-ins will replace throw-ins.

When the ball goes out on the sideline, play restarts with a kick-in.

Kick-ins are indirect, meaning a goal cannot be scored directly from a kick-in.

5v5 Tournament Rules

If teams are tied in points, the tie will break in this order:

1. Goal differential (The difference between goals scored and goals allowed)

2. Total goals scored

3. Head-to-head (The team that won when the tied teams played each other ranks higher.)

4. Fewest goals allowed (The team that gave up fewer goals ranks higher.)

Goal differential is capped at +5 per game.

A team can win by more than 5 goals, but only +5 will count in the standings.

Free Kicks

All free kicks are indirect unless awarded as a penalty kick.

The ball must touch another player before a goal can count.

Corner Kicks

Corner kicks are direct.

A goal may be scored directly from a corner kick.

Goal Kicks

Goal kicks may be taken from anywhere on the end line.

Goal kicks are indirect.

Opposing players must retreat behind the midfield line until the ball is touched by a second player or crosses midfield.

Penalty Kicks

Penalty kicks are awarded when a clear scoring opportunity is stopped by a foul or handball.

Penalty kicks are taken from midfield into an open goal.

All other players must stay behind midfield.

If the penalty kick is missed, play restarts with a goal kick for the defending team.

Three-Yard Rule

On all restarts, defending players must stand at least 3 yards from the ball.

This includes kick-ins, free kicks, corner kicks, and goal kicks.

Goal Box / No Goalkeepers

There are no goalkeepers.

No player may use their hands.

No player may stand in the goal box to act as a goalkeeper.

Players may run through the goal box, but they may not remain inside the box to defend the goal.

If you touch the ball in your own box it’s a goal for the other team.

Scoring

A goal may be scored from anywhere on the field, except directly from a kickoff, kick-in, goal kick, or indirect free kick.

General Rules

There are no offsides.

Slide tackling is not allowed.

Heading is not allowed for 6th grade and younger divisions.

If a player slides and creates contact or danger, the opposing team will receive a free kick.

Forfeits

Teams must be ready to play at their scheduled game time.

Teams more than 5 minutes late may forfeit the game.

A forfeit will be recorded as a 5–0 win for standings purposes.
